My Little Guaban

Well it's official. Little Albertico is now officially part of THE clan, and officially a Guaban -- you know Guatemalan-Cuban American. Huh? You might ask. Well, it's a long story that I'll try to tell in a nutshell...

After I got divorced, I didn't change my last name back. As I wrote in a previous post, I pretty much thought my single status was temporary, and I'm a practical gal -- no reason to be changing my information so many times. Okay, so maybe a little lazy as well. And considering that everyone in my family has the same name, except for the middle names, it was just easier.

Then, I decided to adopt. I put together my paperwork and realized that the child would have my ex-husband's last name. Yikes! But I wasn't about to do a name change and re-do my paperwork.

So you got it... My son's Guatemalan paperwork shows him with my ex-husband's last name.

Today, we completed the re-adoption process in Florida. It was cool. We met with our attorney, Bart at the courthouse. The judge was really cool and asked several conversational questions. He signed the paperwork and that was it. Now, my little Alberto has my family's last name.

Okay, so now I am motivated to change my last name as well. You watch and see. This is when I am going to meet Mr. Wonderful and have to go through another name change again. Personally, I think that would be God's sense of humor with me. But then again... I'm okay where I'm at so if not, that's fine. Only problem is that here I go again with the same name as the my oldest sister and my mother. Grrreeeaattt...

I thought I would have some cute pictures memorializing today but I didn't. I was kind of disappointed in myself for that. But it's okay. I took plenty of pictures after we got home.

We celebrated with a delicious dinner from Pollo Tropical -- I was going to do a real dinner but Alberto fell asleep in the car; so it was drive through.

After dinner, he played out back. He loved it. He loves climbing up the slide and then trying to slide down. It's the cutest thing to watch him figure things out.

But as with all good things, they must come to an end... It was hot, getting late and time to come in. He wasn't happy about that. He was reaching for the doorknob as though he could open the door and escape.

It was too cute. And well, Nana was there to come to the rescue. (I was okay with this because he was absolutely so cute about it. And I told him that Nana could take him outside.)

As soon as she opened the door. He bolted out. And then the little bugar actually came back to the door and peeked inside and smiled.

I know; I know. The door needs to be cleaned. This might explain why it's not... This is a multiple time a day activity.... Bird comes to the back terrace, dogs go wild, Alberto joins them at the door.

Gotta say that Life is Good. God has certainly blessed us and has been faithful to us! It is a Good Day!

Lessons learned: As quickly as the cloudy days come... They go. God's mercies are new each morning. Today was a GOOD DAY! God is good.
