Going Green...

Everyone is going "green" these days. With the price of gas going up, I've eyed those smart cars as I race to the post office a few times a week (there's a dealer right across the street). I wonder how it would be to drive a go-cart with a roof. Okay, not a go-cart but a golf cart with a/c. Do they have a/c? Hum, in Florida that is a definite must! I might have to take the smart car off my list if there is no a/c. But maybe a hybrid. If it's cute and makes me look good driving it, I might consider it.

There are times when I'm channel surfing and come across the planet green channel. It's amazing the products that are out there. Being the sucker that I am, I am convinced I need to put up some paneling on my roof, redo all my floors with bamboo, get that nifty water heater, and redo my kitchen counter tops with recycled glass. It looks really nice! In about 30 years, I will recover the investment. In the meantime, I'll be eating lots of "arroz y frijoles" cooked of course in some energy efficient way.

I've gone to the grocery store and stocked up on my reusable grocery bags. I forget them most of the time but I do use them when I remember. Plus, I figure that I use the plastic grocery bags for my trash rather than purchasing Glad or Hefty trash bags. So, I do recycle them. Unfortunately, they do end up in the landfill filled with a bunch of garbage. I am trying.

A couple weeks ago, the county delivered these huge recycle bins and I got really excited about it. I can now recycle office paper. Since my office is probably responsible for 50% of the deforestation in the US, I figure that I will do my part and shred the paper at home and then dump it in the large bin. Only problem is that my little shredder can only do so much and it makes a mess when I empty it. Every bit helps.?

I bought those energy light bulbs. On the planet green channel, I learned that if every family in the US just changed one bulb to those ugly looking light bulbs that are much more expensive, that LA could be lit for an entire year or was it a month? Wow! That's pretty impressive -- it would be more impressive if it was a year. I could check Wikipedia but maybe someone like me who doesn't have all the facts straight contributed to the post. Truthfully, I have changed many of my light bulbs. But I wait until the old ones die and then I replace them. I really do want to contribute positively to the planet.

I figure I have to do my part to "save" the planet, well, at least limit my "damage" to the planet.

I don't really do it for the planet. I can't bear the title of an environmentalist. I do it for him...

So for him, I will make changes and be more aware of my carelessness.

Tomorrow, I have to take the dogs to the vet. The groomer told my nanny that "nice dog" has dental issues and a clogged gland. Gee, that sounds like fun! I must say, though, that both dogs came out so cute from their grooming. I'll have to share pictures soon. There are times when I can't tell them apart. Mind you, I feel guilty because Bruti isn't here, and I feel a bit unfaithful to him for moving on.

I also advised the nanny that on September 8th Alberto starts daycare. She'll be coming once a week to do housecleaning. I feel so bad for her. I can tell she's a bit depressed about it. She really has been a huge asset and very helpful. Sure, she has her occasional things but no one can discount how well she manages my house and how much Alberto has progressed in his development with her care. But, I have to do what I have to do.

Lessons learned: not sure that I've learned any lessons. Hum, that's not a good thing. I always like to learn something from my experiences, even the goofy random ones. I suppose the letting go thing and moving on. I am realizing that there is a season for all things. There was a season for Bruti to be part of our family and now it's a season for "nice dog" (really have to change that name). There was a season for the nanny and now it's time to move forward. It's gonna be okay.

I love reading your posts! We are working on the "green" thing too. Changed all the light bulbs and are now recycling cardboard, paper, plastic, and cans. It's not bad. Have not tried the shopping bags yet. I hope Alberto likes day care. It will be good for him and he should learn alot.

OK...I'm just going to steal every cute thing you are adding to your blog. Thanks for doing all the "shopping" for me. ha ha.

I keep trying to add a background, but the website is having problems with log-ins or something. And I want to do the signature thing too.

And I love the map...I added that last night. I absolutely cannot do the scrapbook thing, though. I would be on my computer all day playing. And then I could post fancy scrapbook pictures of my chilren, neglected and hungry, because their mother is becoming a blog-design addict.
