I Fired My Pediatrician

I fired my pediatrician. Which translates to her being the "old" pediatrician. It's hard to be mad at her since she is SO nice. But truth be told, she's a little passive and laid back for me. Granted, I didn't think that when she suggested a life debilitating disease for Alberto. But, that was a one time fluke!

Last week, there was a symphony of coughing in Alberto's classroom. This week, Alberto was performing solo. So, when I went by the pediatrician's office to pick up the poop vials, I asked her to check his lungs.

Since Alberto had just pooped when I went to pick him up, we (that is me and his teachers) thought it might be a good thing to have the pediatrician's office scoup the poop out of the diaper.

While the medical assistant was scouping out Alberto's diaper, I asked the doctor to check his lungs and ears. She was not concerned. His lungs were clear. One ear had a little mucus and his throat looked irritated but mostly due to post nasal drip. She said that if he got a fever to call her immediately and if someone reported strep in his class. So basically, she told me "nothing".

Wednesday, he got his fever and threw up a few times during the night while coughing. I was thinking of calling her sometime between 1 and 4am when we were awake. But I decided not to be bitter. I prefer passive aggressive moves.

The Advil resolved the fever. But how do you explain this coughing and now the vomitting? I mean really? This isn't normal. And I swear I am not being a hypchondriac. I don't like going to the pediatrician's office.

Our new pediatrician, Dr. Vicky, diagnosed him with respiratory allergies. So, she prescribed aerosol treatments for him. Unfortunately, the home healthcare people didn't deliver our nebulizer until 9PM. Alberto didn't get his PM treatment. And we were up all night, again...

Today, he is doing better. He hates his treatments. This evening when he saw me get the nebulizer out, he literally ran to hide. Poor little guy. But once I sit him on my lap and put on the mask, he just sits there calmly. I really do hope that this helps him! He needs to get better already!

Good move, Mom. You gotta do what you gotta do. Don't feel bad. Trust your gut. You'll be at the pediatrician 50 bazillion times in the next 17 years, so you better have someone you love.

BTW, today Elliana fell off a kitchen chair and spit open her chin all the way to the bone. 14 stitches on her precious face. It's been a loooooonnnnnng day. And wouldn't you know, tomorrow we are traveling to Toledo for her extended family debut????

Have a blessed weekend, and thanks for your sweet comment on my blog. You are such a good and faithful friend.

Love,
Sandy

I hope he does get better. Kids typically get used to the neb treatments, but I hope he doesn't need them too long!

When Marco first got home we had many, many bouts of bad coughs until finally he was started on the ned and now 2 1/2 years later he rarely ever needs it. Hopefully as Alberto gets older his immunity grows stronger!
