Sleepless in Miami

I have these neighbors behind me that are party animals. Today, they had a mariachi band playing. It was quite entertaining for Alberto. It seems every weekend, they have something going on. But that is not the reason for being sleepless...

Alberto reminded me on Friday night after I posted about my body-shaper issues, that I needed to focus on him. Poor little guy had his poop issues going on and even though they had improved considerably, he still needed some major attention. So, he woke up after being asleep for 2 hours to stay up for nearly 3 hours. No matter what I did, the child would not go back to sleep. His diaper was clean, no fever, no apparent pain, not hungry, not thirsty. He would get to the point where he was comfortable, and then I'd do the unthinkable, I'd twitch. Then, he'd cry. We did this until he passed out exhausted.

You'd think that would mean that he might sleep in a little bit on Saturday. Nope, he was bright-eyed and bushy tailed at 7:00am and ready to conquer the world. Me, on the other hand, I felt like I'd been run over by a Mack Truck. But, I got up.

It reminded me of the early days after Alberto came home. I was amazed at how I would be able to function on so little sleep. I'm a lover of sleep so having so little of it and functioning fascinated me. So there I was again on Saturday on little sleep and seemingly fine.

We actually had a day packed with activities. We went to Fuch Park (I know, find of a funny name. If you do a typo, you can get in a lot of trouble).

As I already told you, he was a bit sleep deprived. After all, he had not had his 11 to 12 hours of Sleep the night before so as you can only imagine, he was miserable at the park.

Since he was so miserable, we proceeded to feed the ducks. Again, he was just so sleep deprived and unhappy. Yes, those are bags under his poor little eyes.

Later on during the day, I felt so bad because Alberto was so miserable at the park that I took him to Dadeland Mall to play in the "pit". As you can see, he was still miserable and unsociable.

Okay, so he doesn't look miserable and sick to his stomach. But looks are deceiving... :)

I really do hope that we can get back on track. I obsess and worry when he's not eating and sleeping properly. It's worse than my obsessing over how he got whatever he got that caused him to have the runs.

For those who might have thought that I was just a big negligent on the sanitizing of what he came in contact with... Three hours with a restless child will cause you to rethink your position on not being so neurotic. And then if that doesn't work, wiping down the seat at Target will push you over the edge. I bought all the products. Only thing is that I have to remember to keep them in the car!

And finally, there is just one other little thing. And yes, this has to do with vanity and lightness. It's been a tough weekend... On Guatadopt someone mentioned Fitflops. So, yes, I went out and bought some. I needed a little retail therapy this weekend and Macy's was having good sales. Guess what? I wore the fit flops to just walk around the house. This morning when I was walking back to my car after church, my legs felt as though I'd had a little work out. I was impressed. As you can imagine, I am going to be wearing my Fit Flops all the time. Now, I am not a fan of how they look. But, if they can make my legs look great and perk up my butt.... I'll deal with their ugliness (I just won't wear them anywhere public).

And one final note. There is a reason why Pedialyte has an expiration date and everyone has advised me to check it -- it goes bad before it's consumed. Why? Because it is disgusting. Flat 7-Up or Sprite works like a charm! I can guarantee you that I won't have a problem with that going bad in my house.
Lessons learned: God is good in the hard times. A little retail therapy can be a pleasant distraction. Children are resilient and bounce back -- just not as fast as I would like. And finally, Pedialyte is a waste of money.
